Just want to share my latest build.
Modded an low power 532nm pointer.
I think the new one rules much more.
Duty cycle is very short, about 30 sec due to its relativ high output (about 600mW)
I used flexdrive set to 600mA and A140 c@si0 diode.

But let the pictures talk...

Heatsink is drilled out of aluminium wit press in fit for the diode.

I like your little driver/diode module assembly. Seems to have saved you a lot of space!

That thing must suck them AAAs dry soooo fast....

How come I don't see any negative wires, only one set, presumably for positive?

Very nice build. Did you make the little module or was it like that? Either way that is some great stats for some AAA's. You could also make a spacer and use a single rechargable 10440.;)

He's probably attached a pin to the case to use for negative? Good question. :p

i used the negative contact of the diode (direct press).
The wire is soldered under the driver so you can't see it.

The aluminium part was made on a lathe by myself.

The AAA don't last very long, only real fresh ones work. maybe i have to turn the pot down a lot^^

Try NiMh rechargeables, they can deliver more current than Alkalines, IIRC.

you are right, normally they work bether. But in this case its a mather of voltage. The flexdrive beginns to dim at about 2,5V.
so with brand new Duracell AAA batteries (1,6V) with an inner resistance of about 100-200mOhm and a current of >1A they drop voltage by ~2x0,2V

-->
With 2 x Duracell:
2 x 1,6V - 0,4V = 2,8V
i'm still bether than:
2 x 1,2V = 2,4V from 2x NiMh

But maybe I chop it and try a 10440.
That would be a sweet little beast.
