kool, I installed mine in a kriton V1 barrel yesterday and it worked great. only Im under-powering it with a 400mA driver. :-[
I guess Im playing it safe, but I'm wasting some good heat sinking...

No need for the sad, embarrassed face. You will have a bright, red burner for a very long time with that set up. My Kenom-built, red Kryton is very similar to yours. I will not alter it. Yes, my 330mW MXDL build IS bright, but I WILL be replacing the diode in the (not too distant) future. The diode is being unduly stressed every time I turn it on. When you are ready (if ever) to break things just to see what it takes to break them, you will build something else. Right now, you have a very cool laser.

Nicely done!

Peace,
dave

Driving it at 400mA??? Holy crap... Wondering if my rkcstr drivers (god i love these!) will cope with that at max... Otherwise, a DDL will probably work just fine.

@ s8t3r: *SIGH OF RELIEF* I also added delivery confirmations and such to the larger orders. glad you got yours

@ Heruu: Glad you got yours safe and sound!

@Pocketfluff: I really dont know what to say. USPS can be a B I T C H at times, If you dont find yours at the post office, Then I will reimburse your lost funds.

Thank you everyone for your support of this GB. Considering the feedback I got from this one, I will most likely run a Long open can GB #2.

Regards,

I just harvested my first sled from the GB. very nice open can diode, performed at 155mW in a Dorcy flashlight build I made with a 4.7ohm resistor. I need to get some lower value resistors and make some more of these! (yes I know I can put multiple resistors in parallel to reduce resistance, but I like it to look nice on the inside and outside and want some 1-2 ohm resistors, or maybe i'll make some without resistors and see what they do :) )

I also harvested the IR diode on accident, i wasn't sure which was which and the IR diode is closed can so I know it's not the one I want. just a tip for harvesting farmers, the bigger square heat sink on the left is the L Open Can diode that you want, the small rectangular heat sink on the right is the closed can diode.

thanks AMK!

These were a dream to harvest. The ribbon cable was so easy to desolder since it was raised off the base of the diode. Once I sawed down to the diode, the metal was brittle enough to allow me to snap off a corner with pliers.

glad to see all was well. I am returning from vacation in a week, and will probably start another one of these then.

Finally got around to testing one today. Wavelength is 653nm+- 2nm tested one to death at 25 deg c, no lens. The output power was 522mw before it gave up the ghost. Impressive to say the least!

if it took THAT much to kill it, does that mean these could run safely at ~400mW?

I think Gazoo pushed one to a little over 400mW and it lasted a while, but it died IIRC.
