Well, now that the thread is here anyways... a couple of pictures from the insides. I removed the front cap and foam nugget around the battery spring for these, nothing else.

As you can see they are very different inside from the typical AAA sized pointers you buy from DX, KD and such. The actual laser module has a metal ring around the diode that sits flush with the outer casing. I was unable to push it out with moderate force, and decided not to persue that further now.

Sorry about the noisy pics, did them with my compact without much light.

Yep, My 50mW. puts out 85 PEAK & a nice even 70mW's average. I'm satisfied, 'nuff said............rob

You could mention things like modehopping, beam divergence and power stability with respect to voltage and heat (as far as you can tell by looking at it) :undecided:

It suffers from some dimming due to heat, at least after a couple of minutes of continous operation. This could very well be the pen form factor to blame, the module inside would fare better if properly cooled i think.

I've never seen it mode hop, not even when running warm. On divergence i dont have a measured value, but its on par (or better) with anything commonly sold in this form factor. The beam from the module is much wider than most similar lasers, making it less suitable for, say, popping balloons at close rage.

i have purchased about 6 of the 50's all over 50 except 1 unit 46 i think
what i noticed that the beams were really fat -to some it doesnt matter others
it does but for a pointer pretty good deal

anyone have a close-up pic of a ledshoppe beam and a newwish beam for example?

I dont have pictures at hand, but the beam from the ledshoppe is about 3-4 mm in diameter, while the newwish is much more narrow (1.5 or so). This makes it much less of a tape melter (burner is too big a word for these power levels), though the actual amount of light that comes out is better than most 50 mW rated aaa pointers.
