The 1-2 mw average doesn't bother me. However, the 8-9mw spikes are fuckin' cool.

I would venture that it would take about 7 mw of 650 to have the dots be as bright, but because of the lower frequency of the 650nm light, you might need as much as 10mw to get the beam to be as bright.
660nm light is 28% of 635, and 650nm light is 49% as bright as 635. That's mw for mw of course.

agreed! you wouldnt need a huge amount of power you get a good beam if you live somewhere humid!
if anyone wants to send me 593nm i would gladly shine it into the Houston skies for you!

On good batteries, on a dark night, mine has a very visible beam, enough to use for starpointing. It's not a lightsaber to the top of the atmosphere like a highpowered greenie, but there's no mistaking it's presence. When it's peaking though, it's probably 5ish mw because it's damn near as bright as my Lyra. Shame it can't hold that performance, most of the time it's only about as bright as my 635, probably like 1 mw.

My 2mW Xerex is a fun and interesting pointer, but a beam shot into the night sky. . . . . not likely with mine. Of course I live right in the middle of Southern California. The light pollution here is terrible. I guess I need to take it out into the desert, eh? . . .or to the beach? . . . .or to the mountains? . . . .so many decisions, so little life left to live

I'm in southern Oklahoma right now. If I get away from the city, it's pretty obvious. In the city though, not a chance! It's only obvious when it's peaking though, when it's running normal it's not really visible. I love 594's not just for their color but for the fact that they seem to have a personality to them.
