Hello,
Probably not, but who knows, they listed it at 660, so at least not the 635/650. Runs off the 3.7 rather than the cr-123a's.
Hopefully I can get it apart to check it out easily. Is there any tell tail signs I can notice to verify which it may be, pumped or just diode? I know a diode just terminates and has the one lens downstream for the focus and the pump should have a lens directly over the diode, is this correct?
Thanks for all your input!
Regards, Joe

Oh,
On that cheapie greenie, I went back and looked again thru his first 200 f/b, and the only negeative for this laser was for over priced shipping to someone that lived close to him, and one positive that stated his was maybe 70mw. Other than that, there were about 25 sold and all left good f/b. This seller only has 3 bad f/b in 3 years, and 2 of them were for that shipping thing from the same buyer. (About 10 Nuetrals, but non on the laser)
I understand that 90%, if not higher are being bought by a first timers that wouldn't know the difference from 5mw against 500mw, so f/b on ebay doesn't say much for them even when positive. Of cours, if all negative, we would get the idea.
So I am guessing a different seller than you are seeing? Is it OK to post their Name here?
Still probably a 50mw'r w/ a few thousand IR output. If it is anything at all, I will let you know.
Thanks again for your input.
Regards,
Joe

This guy is trading under the EBay name of- kim_chi06

He is selling these 250mw red pointers but he is adamant that they wont burn anything - strange ???

##://tinyurl.com/2d64aq## (add 'http' to the start of this link)

This is some text of emails I have been sending him with his reply's starting from the bottom :-

HIM
Every now and again, I have to deal with people like you. You havent got a
clue what you are talking about but think you are a professor of
electronics. My company is Spymodex.com specializing in laser pointers for
over 5 years so I think I know what I am doing!

ME
So it doesn't burn then - well they are simply NOT over 50mw in power then
so I wont be buying.
Red or green makes no difference to a lasers burning ability. It's the
power of the laser than depicts if it will burn or not!
I think you should re-write your listings as you are misleading people
into purchasing a 250mw red laser that wont burn and that is simply not
correct!
Good day

HIM
Hi.
Red lasers do not burn very well but green do. they are also not as bright
as green. That is why they are ussually much less money than green.
Regards

ME
Will THIS laser burn black plastic, pop black balloons, light a match or light a cigarette?
I know about green and red lasers, I have been messing with them for years.
What I am asking is: Does THIS laser that YOU are selling do those things?
Sorry to be stuffy but I MUST know this before I purchase?
Please reply before the end of the auction.
Thanks

ME
Thanks for the reply but I don't fully understand your answer, are you
saying this red laser @ 250mw output wont burn?
If it won't then it isn't anywhere near 250mw laser output?

HIM
Dear smogthemog,
>
Hi.
Red lasers are not good for burning, you are better off with green for
that.
Thank you

ME
I am very interested in buying this item at a good price if it is indeed
250mw and it does indeed burn?
Can you please let me know before the end of the auction.
Thanks
Best regards

Jim B

he's trying to make these lasers seem better than they are, his description leads you to believe it is DPSS when it is in fact not. i would try and have the auction closed by ebay

plus if that laser is outputting anywhere near 250mw, it should be able to light matches, pop balloons and engrave plastic

I wouldn't even consider looking at his listing after the log smogthemog posted.

He doesn't need or want your business.  Drop him.  Our DIY reds can be focused for better burning ability.
Glad I don't have to deal with him.

Yeah, seriously guys. Spymode is the original unfiltered laser scam. When you hear people asking about "does it have an IR filter", etc. etc. Its because of this exact company. They started this whole mess and Steve and a few others brought their scam into the light back on LC a long ago.

Why they keep coming up? Why people even give them the time of day anymore... Just proves we need to do a little bit of research on our own before we go around asking for help. Sorry if that's a little harsh, but in the laser world asking about Spymode is the analog to asking if you should obey the e-mail and give the trillionaire Nigerian diplomat your bank details.

Further more to my conversations with him, I think I may have touched a nerve! :-
(starting from the bottom).....

HIM
HAVENT YOU GOT ANYTHING ELSE TO DO

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU TOO!!

YOU SAD LITTLE ****

ME
I think you know I am not talking crap Sir you just don't want to admit it
to yourself !

An email has been dispatched to Ebay of your actions as myself and many
others are sick and fed up with scammers like yourself that think they can
get away with what you are doing.

Sour grapes - Truth hurts - and all that!

HIM
You are very sad have you not got anything better to do than hide behind
your pc and talk crap??

GET A LIFE!

ME
Take a look here Luke, it seems you don't have a very good reputation at all
and I am VERY glad I didn't purchase from you.
With the blurb that you are trying to tell me about your red 250mw lasers
that DON'T burn, it's not surprising!
Your a scammer - it's quite clear!

Hey Guys,

Sorry I never got that link posted, (family emergency-had to leave town) but yes, it was that chi-kim, or other way around guy. But I must say that when the one I ordered finally arrived, it was quite impressive w/ a visable beam about as bright as my 10mw greenie. (Haven't pulled it apart yet, when I do, I will post a small review)

It has adjustable focus, 3.7 18650 re-charge, and a nice heavy feel. Out of the box it lit matches instantly, burnt thru black tape, etc at around three feet, but the dot was large at distances over 15 feet. When focused to burn closer, the dot is worse father away, but when focussed for a good dot at distances, it burns and lights stuff at 10+ feet with no problem.

I do not have a meter yet, but after 1-2 minutes of continuous running, it does not get very warm and still seems to light very good at 10-15 feet, (no noticable power dropping) such as a cig from 6 feet w/ no puffing on it, just sitting there and when adjusted out, can do it at 10+ feet.

Maybe there is a difference in the re-charge versus the regular spymo? (I am pretty sure it is NOT DPSS as stated, just a diode, as I can see the diode when removing the cap and there is only the coll lens there. Correct in this assumption? So I am not happy about that)

Maybe I just finally lucked out and got a decent one? Don't know, but it was bought before I knew of this forum and all the Great Info here. ( I have bought and sent back at least 10 lasers this past year before finding you guys-luckily I got all my money back including shipping!)

Since here this month, I have bought the GB S-KY 200, 4-BR's, awaiting the Boards from BF, and awaiting on another LPM GB< which I am in for, plus a WL green 125 and 150 red from a private buy here. (should be here in a few more days)

So no more outside purchases that aren't cleared by this Forum. But that aside, this 250mw red does work great for the $160 I paid, (plus the 30 shipping) I know now I could have built my own for far less money, which I will/am doing now. So I have or am starting to have quite the collection of around 15 good lasers of red/green/blue and a box full of older and cat toy stuff.

My cheapy greenie came in deffective. They used a piece of copper wire to sandwich the head assy. to the body, which slid down in when they pressed it together, which touched the board, so just sitting on the table w/ no use, it would heat up really hot and kill the batteries within 2 hours. I have it apart now. They had no other bad feedback for this laser, but as usual, I got the bad one. That is why I can't understand why the red 250 works so well? That never happens to me? (I guess the screw in price and design lies covers up the fact it works ok)

Sorry for the long post. Check out the pics to follow.
Thanks, Joe
