I got a laser yesterday.
Power Output: <200mW
Powered by 1 x 18650C4 battery (included)
Size: (Dia x H) 22 x 153mm/ 0.87 x 6.02in
Color: Black
Net weight: 150g/ 5.29oz
I don't know whether it's really about 200mW.
How can I test it by a simple way.

Get a laser power meter? That's the only way that you can be sure.

For sure you can only know with a Laserpowermeter. For a guess +/- 30mW (in my case) you have to see and play with other lasers in this power range before. Or you have a laser, you know the output for SURE (better quality companies like NOVA, DRAGONLASERS.. will send you a power graph with your laser) and compare it to the laser in your OP. When it seemed to be near the same brightness you can say it within a +/- 10-30mW error.

You are from a German country right? If so, you can send me your laser and I´ll check it on my Laserpowermeter for you. Based on the price you paid, I guess it is about 70-100mW strong, IR unfiltered.

I can use this laser burning paper or plastic. That's really amazing. The 100mW laser also can burn paper like that?
And if I send it to you, I will pay the postage more than 20$. I can purchase 100mW laser with this 20$.
Thank you for your reply.

I don´t know were you´re a living. But there are many people around who take the luck buy and want to know the power later on. When your´s is >150mW (what i still highly doupt), you can´t find a cheaper one WITH a LPM certified power. It´s your choice, it´s just a service from my side.

The only valid way to tell is a power meter. If you have a laser of known, comparable, power you can eyeball which one is brighter if the difference is signficant, but there really is no other valid method of testing.

If you dont have a power meter, sending it to someone you trust that does is by far the easiest way to find out. Most LPF members with meters also have IR filters, so you can be sure of how much green it actually produces.

I know a power meter is the best and this wont be pretty much accurately but...

How about a test in which u take the time it takes to either smoke or poke a hole through a black cd case? (or something else that everyone could get with the same properties and all that), with dot focused to infinity, from a certain distance and probably even knowing the beam diameter it could give u an idea of how many mW it is.

For example if it burns the hole in 5-10 seconds is in the around "X"mW, if it takes more than 10 seconds then is definitely is less "Y"mW and so on...would it work?

;) The black cd case won't affect the result? For example, the material and thickness.
But it's really a good idea, if I have other laser, I will try.
