You're thinking of luminous flux, visibility depends on power density and power.

Read that article, and this one on Candela, it's pretty interesting.

Default Re: Translating Wavelengths to Colors!

Some blunt advice. I don't think someone with 2 wavelengths should be the judge on what wavelength is what color.

Someone had to say it...

Everyone's eyes are different. Whether someone might. see 635 as orange-red, or orange, or bright red, or cherry red, or strawbery red, or whatever-the-heck-red, really doesn't matter. On top of that, what I see as blue, might be what you see as red. The sky (blue) may be what you see as red, and cherry pie (red) might be a bright blue. It's all subjective, these are things that are impossible to test, as you cannot tell someone, or describe, what the color is without using objects to refer to.

It's like explaining sight to a blind man. It's impossible.

I can understand wanting to know kinda-sorta where it all fits in, but there is no benefit in arguing over what wavelength you call red, or the type of green/yellow 556/561 is.

It's all arbitrary.

Use your own judgement. If 589-594 is golden yellow, and 532 is green, what do you think the middle would be based on elementary explanations of the spectrum?

Think about it.

P.S. I feel like there's another wavelength-to-color thread every 2 weeks. Why?

This isn't wikipedia. The point of this thread was NOT to be placed in a science book an taught throughout the ages. This was intended to give a basic idea of what each color was to it's respective wavelengths, for those entirely new to wavelengths, as I was. I couldn't effectively browse websites for certain colors, because I didn't know what their wavelength was.

Note: Since when does someone only having 2 wavelengths of lasers void someone from being able to post about wavelengths?

Im not going to quote Cody's post since it would be too long

But I think what is trying to be said is that there has already been many of these types of threads and it's becoming overwhelming.

Personally I enjoy seeing these same kinds of threads. I somehow learn something new on everyone

Cody, you do your thing.

I was referring to Greenlander arguing over what he defined as red, and assuming what others consider red, same with the 556.

Also, yes, there are many threads following this same paradigm, it seems like they should up every other week.
