Hey Guys,

I need some help with couple of things:

  1. Can this diode press be used to take OUT a diode from a module? It's from Cajunlasers
  2. Can the 12X S06J Blu-ray diodes be set up the same way as a 445nm A/M140? (both can be set up linear/buck w/ 2 li ions OR boost with 1 li ion?) Any special precautions with the 12X blu-rays? What about the 635nm M!tsub!shi's?

I think that's it for now, I swear I had more questions but I can't remember :p

Coolio,
Ryan

The 12X diodes have the same pin out as the 445s, i.e. they can be set up the same way. Do not exceed 500 mA of current if you want the 12X to stick around. ;)

^Yep, that is the general consensus from what I've seen, on DTR's page he suggests keeping under 800 mA on the ones he sells, I would trust his wisdom. Keep in mind also that running any diode at near max current is going to create a lot of heat that you have to get rid of. Good luck!

You might be able to use a .22 shell, or simular tube. Go through your junk drawer first.

To pop a diode out from a module - you can also use a socket that is slightly smaller than the diameter of the module from a wrench set to cover the back of the module, a flat tip screw to place against the head of the diode & a vice to press the screw against the diode out from the back of the module through the hole on the socket. (crappy diagram below) This will destroy the diode of course but works perfectly for salvaging the module. I apologize for the diagram and not having the socket & screw sizes posted for this procedure, I can't remember the sizes I use to do this & all my laser gear is packed away for a couple of weeks because I'm moving....

EDIT: I'm sorry about this, I realized I pasted the pic of the screw facing the wrong direction, you're better off pressing the flat tip of the screw against the face of the diode - rather than the phillips head side.
