Default Re: Lasers vs Airplanes on ABC

I think most of us read all your tread/posts
the preception of a problem is all there needs for there to be for conntroversy.
being right about any real harm done matters not.

more people are killed or injured in Florida by falling coconuts than by poisonous snakes- that fact will never stop idiots from needlessly killing them and start a crusade to cut down all palm trees IMHO

I have no qualms about taking aside someone at a party for example who is shining a green laser anywhere near people ask politely asking them to quit and expalining why they should---does it do any good?? sometimes -yes --sometimes not ---

but doing nothing does even less good.

I have sold a lot of lasers- but never w/o the whole schpeel on good sense use of it.

But the media has blown laser dangers way out of proportion! Go ahead and twist my words any way you want!!! untill anything happeneds, I'm still right! :b let the hate commence lol
The idea is to PREVENT the first crash

Also, an aborted landing, with a fly around, costs money.

Finally, many politicians are sitting around looking for something to which they can hitch their wagon. They cannot ban coconuts, but lasers are an easy target. They can appear to be concerned for public safety while not actually doing anything that would anger the vast majority of their constituents.

Peace,

I really do think there should be an age limit, or at least some measure of protection, akin to the amatuer radio bands. Say, if you want to use lasers, you would need to take a test, and like the more advanced bands in Ham, if you wanted access to higher power lasers, you would have to demonstrate the knowledge neccessary to own it by completing harder tests in every aspect of the hobby. This would keep the yahoos to a minimum, and promote the education of the otherwise completely ignorant casual laser user.

I mean, when I bought my first green at Radioshack, all they said was, "Be careful with this, it's pretty bright". Great warning!

The problem with this is that it's impossible to restrict sales. There are just way too many fly by night chinese companies selling lasers that won't care who they sell to.

This is why I believe education is the only real way to stop abuse.

You don't see people shooting guns at planes.

Just sayin'
