Dang-diddley-darn! Lost my posts and a whole rep. point! That’s ok, good to see all is well once again. The time away gave me more time to play with my newly acquired tool. I had purchased a couple of Rominsen 30’s from DX. They were to be used as host bodies, but when they arrived I had noticed that the inside was plastic! I have no idea what they were thinking with this one, but I guess cut corners are CUT CORNERS. I needed to replace the plastic with some proper metal, and slap in a bluray of course. If you have this style Rominsen, I would suggest you consider this mod. It eliminated the heat issues with the green, and I feel safer running my other diodes in it now. [smiley=2vrolijk_08.gif]

Thanks! I cant believe I waited this long to buy one. Its been 15 years since I used a lathe, but its slowly coming back. I guess its a bad idea to leave the key in, considering there is a 8ft pane of glass right behind it

My lathe came with a spring ejector on the chuck key, that was immediately recycled as part of the quick release for the tail stock lock... It was always drummed into me, never to let go of the key whilst it is in the chuck, I have never forgotten :) I cannot envisage not having a lathe available and, as you say, they can be purchased without breaking the bank these days.
None of my home made lasers would exist without my lathe.

Back on topic....what driver have you got in there?

Its the 7805 with 2x 3.6 lithiums (ultrafire). Im still working up the nerve to extract my 6x, but figured id build one hell of a heatsink / host first. I removed the diode from the burner, but havent cut it from its shell.

Nice machinery, Wannaburn. Both what you made and what you bought :) Now you get to spend your paychecks buying tooling ;)

I may have to do this myself when mine comes in now that I have access to a few machining tools. Nice work wannaburn!

LOL, That was my first one. Thank God some things stay stored in the brain. I havent made anything on a lathe in 15 years, and the only thing I made was a hammer with a taper in grade 9. It is certainly fun, and I just hope I can recall all the wonderful little tricks that my machining teacher used to drill into our heads :)

Well that beats me. I've only made a chess piece so far. I have to start making heatsinks for the lasers im building in my lab at school now. Good thing they don't have to be pretty. haha

The big question is, what are you gonna do with your time when you retire? If you already got the goodies you will always have something to do

I finished another Rominsen, but this one with a green. The new heatsink makes for a very welcome difference :)
