Nice shavings :).
Aluminum is satisfying to cut into, don't you think? You can take a nice bite without making everything work to hard.

Well i've been thinking about doing that too for my Romisen 30 but been too lazy to do it WannaBurn just convinced me. Only diff i'm gonna use copper from old heatsinks I have laying around.

Here's what it looks like before pulling out the copper slug. If anyone needs one of these for a huge heatsink for experiments let me know i'm sure we can work something out I have about 40 of them keep in mind they weigh about 800grams and shipping will be from Italy.

Definately! I love the reduced stress this alloy offers. When I was in highschool, the only thing I worked on was steel. The crazy part is that the machine I used in school for steel, cut faster and better than my mini cuts alloy >:(  Im currently working out some of the bugs with this machine. Im starting with shortening the space between the chuck and its bearing, and picking up the slack. Harmonics can wreak havoc when cutting at 3000rpm, and have jammed the parting tool a couple of times (at lower rpm of course).
Im also looking into a mini mill, as my heatsinks tend to roll away! :o

Nice work! Copper eah? you show off! Thats a nice look, I was thinking of copper when I was picking up my stock, and ended up getting some nice brass (costs 10x more than t-6 alum.) I dont mind using aluminum when it is of aircraft grade, the purity really makes it shine in the removal of heat. I still prefer brass, and was thinking of casting the diode housing out of scrap 14k gold ive got kicking around. It will make for a interesting future project ;D

On a side note I needed to turn it on the lathe at work my mini lathe that runs up to 3000 R.P.M. just wouldn't cut it. The piece was just chattering away. If it wouldn't cost me more than the copper is worth i'd send you a few I have lots of those laying around in heatsinks.

I finished another Rominsen, but this one with a green. The new heat sink makes for a very welcome difference :)
GOT DAYUUMMM
How many mw's is that?
it looks very strong.
did you use a long exposure ? any effects

I swear one of these days, hopefully soon, I will buy my own lathe and start making things. Im sure I will make things I don't need too, but any time spent working metal is time well spent.
