My two cents of this is that lighsabers aren't based on lasers. It's probably plasma like in a plasma cutter in a metal shop. We've had one in our high school metal shop and it cut quarter inch steel sheets like hot knife through butter. Unlike a laser beam, a beam of plasma wouldn't need mirrors to terminate it but will be regulated by pressure at which it leaves the nozzle (lightsaber hilt in this case). Still pretty damn hard to get all of those gasses in something as tiny as a flashlight-sized cylinder, but again it won't need mirrors and it is gonna cut stuff up pretty fast.

Duh everyone knows you need the "Force" to make it work.... :whistle:Only a few of us have figured it out.... but unlike the 445 nm >1W we will not disclose this deadly information to the mass idiot public....

If the lightsaber color is any indication of how much force one has, than Mace Windu (I assume everyone on this particlular forum knows who that is) should've been the best Jedi. Forget Yoda.

In Star Wars universe, color is actually an indication of the source of the primary crystal used in a lightsaber.

Fun Fact: Lightsabers were originally intended as weapons for everybody, as a "melee" weapon along of their primary weapons like blasters. The idea was later scrabed and lightsabers were reserved only to "Holy warriors" such as Jedi, since only they could master it's usage. It was admitted it would be pretty pointless weapon in a battle, so the Force compensated for that, giving the ability to deflect blaster bolts.

Imagine those millions of cloned troopers on Kamino, each learning how to use Lightsabers, then proceeding to use them in Geonosis battle. What a lightshow could that have been.

Still, why was Windu the only one who had the purple lightsaber? Was he the head Jedi? And I wouldn't say lightsaber would be a pointless melee weapon. Maybe one that would not be used that often, but not totally pointless. Even today, soldiers often carry fighting knives with them, and a lightsaber packs more of a punch.

Yeah but light sabers couldn't touch a Dragon. So I trumped you!

hmm lightsabers would be amazing technology and extremely terrifying too, but all we need to do is find out how to bend light. If we can bend light we can make a high powered laser bend at 1.2m and return down to the laser with a miniature black hole at then end :D just kidding something that will stop the light, hence a lightsaber thing magigie...

As I understand it, purple was the actors ( Samual Jackson ) favorite color. It is also said that he likes to incorporate this color in most, if not all his characters that he plays! But yea, going by Star Wars tech, that purple lightsaber crystal is very rare indeed!

Uhm ..... it's someway funny to see how , apparently, in all your discussions about it, none of you noticed the main fail in the idea of the "focusing points in front of the handle" (or "row of spots", if you prefer) .....

Let me have fun trying to explain it with a draw:

(also known as "light don't self-stop at focusing points" ..... ;))

I don't see a black hole in your drawing... And you forgot the Power of the Force.

"Saber fight? Oh I'll just bring my trusty Russian TT-33 7.62mm Armor piercing pistol, thank you very much. "

Armor piercing PISTOL?? 90grain bullet at a very little over 1400 FPS at the muzzle??
Must have really shabby armor over there. Give you a nasty bruise, with out ceramic plate, but won't even punch Kevlar body armor.

BUT,, EXCELLENT alternative to the 'light saber'. My compliments and agreement.:gun:

Uhh yeah actually, 7.62mm x 25 mm ammunition was actually used in an automatic rifle PPSh42, and it wasn't even meant for pistol.

The round itself packs a lot of explosive propellant, more than what's common in pistols, and speed of the bullet is at least double the bullet from .32 round.

At least, my dad who fought in a war says so. If he says so, it's definetly so. I have never personally witnessed an armor being shot, so I'll take his word who has.

Nevertheless, it's a mega epic pistol, huh?

Once you get those lightsabres working you should remember protective clothing.

Cutting someone in two means that you are standing arms lenght from a large steam explosion. :D

I wanted to get a Tokarev myself. That 7.62 had something to do with that. Than I spoke with gramps who fought in WWII in the Red Army. He said the TT wasn't worth a damn when compared to the German Parabellum (Luger) pistol. TT's accuracy left much to be desired. But when I checked out pricing on the two I thought I'd still rather get that.
