Re: Rick Trent laser kits

RT Laser modules are the finest money can buy when you factor in the mw/dollar you get. High value all day. Rick is my SOLE source for all things 445nm. Variety is good but once you taste a 3W+ laser, everything else pales in comparison. Keep up the great work. You are doing a fine job.

Jeeze Rick , I don't get any credit for taking your unit to the limit?? ( Kidding ole friend)

In the Southeast ambient temps are rising quickly as summer approaches. I've tested your lasers @ 80* with approximately 80% humidity and they still make initial PK Wattage
and stability is very good.
( yes they drop a few 100mw PK when hot but still maintain stability)

Looking very much forward to your 5+ 6 watt. Ship it in a well packed PLANO gun case
that should keep the cube in alignment for shipping.

Re: Rick Trent laser kits

It was the 5 mode driver, I believe set at 2.2 (when I switched lenses to a single element all I got was 2.3-2.4 ish watts) and the heatsink was the Original first batch aluminum sink.

Sorry my laser vocabulary is in its infancy. I can say that I was very cruel to the unit I dropped , and it got Hot every time I ran it. I'd say I ran it aproximately 30 minutes a day for about 90 days. ( perhaps more than 30 minutes per day.......I was amazed it was lasting so long so I really pushed the unit)

As I won't be repeating this , I can't comment on his newer heatsink design.

Where else are you gonna get a 3.2 watter 445 that can handle that kind of abuse for under 280 dollars?. I would think a high powered RT laser should be in everyones collection. ( It did loose a few hundred mw after the "impact event")
The driver was a 2.5A .The drivers i have now are around 2.4A

Greetings,

I have 4 of Rick's kits that I put together and they are all killer. :gun:
His latest heatsink uses a ring to hold the driver in instead of soldering it to the heatsink. I was working on some modifications to what he normally uses and mentioned I wanted to use a ring to hold the driver in. I was actually thinking about something a little different than what he is using now, but pressing in the ring works great.
What really motivated me in wanting to use a ring is because I am not that good at soldering. Spent some time working with him trying to make a first build instead of just assembling already made parts. Ended up toasting a driver. I ordered a new one and he was kind enough to include the base part of the new heatsink and the ring to hold it in.

By far the biggest bang for your money and 2nd to none for customer service.
Rick is the man !!

cheers,
Moe

Re: Rick Trent laser kits 3w camo $179 free ship USA

Got my camo kit.

I used an extention I had from a previous host and it worked well to allow 2- 18650 vs 2- 16340.
Can't be sunny everyday. This unit struggled to pk at 2.8 , though its extremely humid and hot.

EDIT: after being cooled in air conditioned 77* with fresh 3100mah Panasonics . The unit easily nailed 3 watts. (3072mw) When you 're up this high in wattage with a moderate sized heatsink, every little variable seems to effect peak . Stability is good a always.

Edit II. With lower humidity and after some use, this so called 3 watt laser hits overflow on my meter. 3.2+

Dropping out of Warp in 3, 2, 1.

Greetings,

As you can see from my sig I have a few of Rick's, all of which are killer !!!
He does have a very well thought out kit that is very high power and a reasonable price.
I have been working on some builds using the MX900 host that is almost like Rick's but with a larger heatsink and longer duty cycle. He's been great as a mentor and also as a source for excellent parts.

cheers,
Moe
