Re: Gem sale.

for curiosity:

-is it quartz or garnet?
-size/weight of the stones?
-esp. the sapphire: what does "party" mean? is it natural or man-made? is it treated (esp. heat-treated) or otherwise "enhanced"?

good luck with your sale! from what i noticed, many laser-enthusiasts enjoy minerals, gems, stones too! :)

Garnet.

Doesn't show up on my digital scale but I esimate 0.3 grams each.
Both are this ways | 6mm. Both this ways - 5mm. Both height are 4mm.

A party sapphire has more then one colour it in that whats makes it so expensive most sapphires are one colour but party means that is more then one colour and this has three. This is %100 NATURAL!
Not treated or enhanced in ANY way!

Re: Gem sale. (Better pictures and more info)

I have no idea what a "party" sapphire is. It is not an official name of any sapphire that I know of. There is an unlimited amount of treated sapphires coming out Thailand. Until we know what this is, I would hold off. Many of the treatments done on these stones are simply surface diffusion. If you ever need to rework the stone, you can't. Plus they are very inexpensive.

A quick search of eBay (notorious for fake and untreated stones) only finds one dealer using "party" in the description of his sapphires. Even then, he refers to them as "party color" sapphires. I suggest you get this to a GIA certified gemologist to find out what you have.

As far as the garnet is concerned, a 4x6mm (~2 carat) unmounted garnet is worth about $15. I've got one in my stock, mounted in a silver pendant, that I have marked at $30.

Peace,
dave

Thanks for the info. Dave. I was wondering ( as I'm sure were others) just what that meant 'PARTY' You are truly a treasure trove of trivia & you also possess a wealth of information on just about any other subject that one would wonder about. We are truly blessed to have such intelligent & caring people such as yourself as members of our Forum. I was just surprised not to hear from Glenn also. This sort of thing is right up his alley too, isn't it ?

Two colors are bicolor.  Three colors are tricolor.

I don't see any color zoning in the stone at all.

Color zoning in tourmaline

**EDIT**  I finally found some more obscure sites that referred to sapphires with more than three color zones as "party color."

Jealous much?

This was found in the middle of australia in a sapphire felid then cut and put in a pin that men wear to keep there tie in place, then given to my mum and the stone taken out and put into her wedding ring, then she got devorced and melted the gold and sold the melted gold and gave the stone to me.

Right now it is about 30 years old and in PERFECT condition! :)

You expect people to buy rocks off a laser forum without any proof of authenticity, just your word?  ;D You are being a little naive brother.

Here..I fixed your picture if you want to use it...

Ha ha very funny?

I was just talking to my mum she doesn't care, it is just a stone of bad memories for my mum, but for me it's some extra laser money ;).

She got devorced and SHE melted the ring not me and she gave it to me and why did she give it to me? cause she doesn't want it anymore. :p.

If I want to sell it she doesn't care and I do so I am.

1. there gems not rocks.
2.authenticity? I put pictures with lots of information what more do you need I mean you buy lasers and stuff off jake21 and you say I NEED authenticity. pfft

Anyways I going to get the stone weighed by a jewler and go to a trusted gem site and they sell by weight and find one that has the colours, size and weight that is close to this one and see what the price is.
Then sell it to the person that offered to buy it from me for quite a bit less then the retail price.
