It is total BS.Maybe, maybe not. We can't tell untill someone from lpf tests one.
It is total BS.
We would offer 200mw in a 2 cell AAA pointer if it were possible, fact is that it's just not possible. In fact in over the past couple of years that we have offered the 150mw power level, only 3 out of over 2,000 have been 200mw pointers and we use a high performance crystal doping and optical coatings that the cheapie pointers don't have.
You can't tell anything from a photo showing a pointer and a meter, it means nothing other than they took a picture of a meter and pointer.
1. It could be a silicon sensor, which reports very high reading if any IR is included. For instance a few mw of IR going into a silicon sensor that is set for 532nm will show as much as 30mw or more on the meter. Take the IR filter off of a 30mw pointer that leaks 5 or 6 mw of IR and use a lasercheck (meter with a silicon based sensor) on it. The power will go from the 30mw before the filter was removed to well over 100mw.
The other trick they can use is to just set an offset to the meter output so that it reports 50mw to 100mw on the meter with no laser pointing at it. then when a 50mw pointer is tested, it will show 100 to 150mw.
A photo can also be one that is stolen from a different website altogether and not even theirs.
It's not a good metric to have them send a pointer for review either as they will know it's for review and cherry pick the best on they have.
Of course if they send an underspec or bad laser for review, then you know right away to avoid them as they are probably a drop shipper or a company that has no testing capability; however if the laser is up to spec or overspec all it tells you is that that 1 laser is good as you don't know if it's cherry-picked or not.
Only real way is by trail and error of customer comments from those who have the capability to test the lasers and were bought anonymously.
