WTB: Neodymium Magnets (Got Any Lying Around?)

The CD RW drives you harvest diodes from have at least 2 very powerful magnets in the head. You should have a bunch by now. Some sleds have 4 magnets. I don't know what they are made of, but they are strong.

Mike

I tested acouple of mine and they run 2,000 to 2,200 Gauss.

A friend gave me a couple magnets used in glass making. They are 3/8" square and about 2" long. Awsome -- test at 4,200 gauss !!! Maybe you can find a place making glass that uses them. They are replaced occasionally.

A friend once came by my house with some CDRW drives that didn't work anymore so we opened them and took the optics + magnets out of the sleds. All we got were some 2x2mm square magnets. Cool stuff, but just not enough :D

I didn't know they were used in glass making, I'll look into it for sure, thanks!

I have several dozen dead harddrives here, each one has two very powerful (though somewhat large, and weird shaped) neodymium magnets in them... We're not doing anything with them, so they're yours for the price of shipping. I also have a bunch pre-harvested if you'd like. PM me.

Thanks, PM is being sent :)!
