write speed/ mb per second?

In determining the write speed of a drive, i need some help. If a drive is listed as 8mb per second in its produce description, does that mean it is an 8x? :thinking:

That would be a 6X DVD or a 54X CD drive, the two are equivalent.

thanks thunderbird, but i should have been more specific. I was wondering if the specs i listed translate for blu-ray.
