Would you use your laser to start the camp fire

Re: Would you use your laser to start the camp fir

Thanks for the link :)

Sure, I could use google, but why bother when other people who already know the link can just post it :)

*lazy*

Cause you don't have to make the tremendous effort of typing your post and then wait for that someone to reply. ::)

Yea, you're right, I just cooked the meat directly with the laser, without actually starting a fire :-[  ;D

Neat.

Can't wait for the future to happen, so lasers like that are cheap :)

(I mean, imagine like a laser that when you point it at something, it's like sticking it in a microwave... so you can cook food just by pointing your little laser at it!)

...

(If those get invented and are cheap enough for the general public... well, I think we can kiss civilization goodbye...)

im telling ya, a 808nm 130kW laser with 20mRad divergence would do it! :P ::) ::)

I met a guy a while back who got his hands on one of the laser I guess they were using to test satellite based laser weapons with. Not the one they would have put up there of course, but one of the smaller ones to test the idea. Anyway he pointed it a a bird one time and it basically cooked the bird alive almost right away. It was a pulsed gas laser of some sort; I'm guessing CO2. I'm also quite sure he was exaggerating, but I don't doubt it killed the bird.

Re: Would you use your laser to start the camp fir

Man, even a 100 watt CW CO2 tube would roast a bird. The sort of thing in a CNC sheet metal laser cutter.

Re: Would you use your laser to start the camp fir

I reckon candlepower would work just as good, ya know. Get a nice focused halogen and burnin' happens ;D

Re: Would you use your laser to start the camp fir

i got a 200mW the suggested cheap $50 one in the sticky thread.

I have an idea. I could leave a match a 1/4 inch from the puddle of kerosene. I could step back and keep aiming at the match from 3 foot or whatever and then it ignites and also ignites the kerosene from a safe distance.

Re: Would you use your laser to start the camp fir

^Best idea suggested yet. Fast , clean, safe.
