will this host (cree c3 stainless) work with green modules?

Hey guys,

I really like this host (the dark_horse silver host):

Does anyone know if it will fit a green module from o-like (12mm diameter x 62mm length)?

and what battery will be needed? (maybe rcr2 or rcr123)

i guess the major problem is that the entire host is only 95mm long, and the module would be 62mm.

could we fit a cr2 in an AA barrel ?

I wonder if there's room in the wall thickness to put it in the lathe and machine the battery compartment to fit the diameter of an RCR123?

An RCR123 is about 36mm long... I think the length would be fine, because the module can be shortened if necessary. There is some extra brass tube at the front.

Stainless is workable, but the big question, is there enough wall thickness in the host to fit a 16.5mm battery.

Firstly it's the sliver host, not silver. Sliver means "a very small thin piece of something".

Secondly.. I doubt that it's worth the trouble grinding away at the battery compartment to allow an RCR123 to fit in, if what you were looking for was a simple host option.

If enough people show interest and Mohrenberg agrees to try the design as you suggested on his thread it might be a really cool custom made shape though

a LC 14500 3.6V battery works great for this host. Dark Horse sells a kit that comes with this battery.


now if I can just figure out how to remove the flashlight guts.....

anyone know how?

I just cut my hand trying to get a socket (for a socket wrench) that I pressed into the head of the flashlight trying to push the flashlight guts out.. used a vice. and now its stuck

This host uses 14500 lithium cells, not CR123s (DealExtreme: $3.99 TrustFire 14500 3.7V 900mAh Rechargeable Lithium Batteries (2-Pack))

Stainless can be worked in a "good-sized-lathe", but not much fun. In a mini-lathe, it is pretty tough.

For the 532-modules:
I have only used the O-like-modules in the Sliver-hosts,(pretty-much standard-size), but they require a special heatsink, (extended-length) and ap-cover, to provide the additional-length needed to house the 532-module, otherwise it fits fine. The DJR-heatsink is longer, and you can actually install a 532-module right into it and set-screw as usual, but an inch or so of the module will extend out the front of the heatsink. I have made a special ap-cap, which is the OD of the DJR-head, that slips-on over the module-end to cover the module and provides an enormus amount of more mass for heatsinking. I have made several of both set-ups, but I cannot accept any custom-orders for a while. We are getting our new CNC-router up and running. Check out the gallery on my site for some pictures of both.

One other important-thing with using 532-module, make certain to reverse the battery as most/all 532-module have a positive-ground.

With regards to the Sliver disassembly, I just use a dental-pick, or other pointed instrument to gain purchuse in one of the "spanner-slots" on the "pill" that holds the driver/anode-contact board, and rotate, it should loosen-up and screw right-out.
