I have 4 diodes and a one ohm resistor ant I want to make a test load for a opencan. will 4 1N4004 diodes work?

I tried these and I am getting no mV across the resistor, the same thing that happened to my rckstr test load, that is wrong? the driver is even supplying voltage but no reading across the resistor?

im getting mv but I cant get over 300 and something, the pot on my flexdrive may be broken as it rotates all the way round with ease (i never forced it not even a little). where should I stop turning it?
edit: Ohh forgot to mention, ive bridged the high range thingy.

It is not good that the pot goes right round.
With no power to the circuit can you measure between the wiper (which should be linked to one end of the pot)and the non linked end with your multimeter (set on ohms)?
If it has gone over the end stop the wiper may no longer touch the resistance track, when you turn it the resistance will not change.
If that is what has happened the pot has become a fixed resistor.
