Will Retroreflections back into a LOC be bad?

Thats the question...Will retro reflections going back into the aixiz aperature of a LOC be bad for the diode? Standing By... :)

Sorry -- Catastrophic Optical Damage -- The returning photons can cause damage to the crystal "mirror" which can lead to the laser cavity breaking down = LED

so if one were so inclined to attempt to combine two diodes with a PBS for example the entrances to the cube would have to be "cocked" as to not permit a retroreflection one could say???

A PBS cube will NOT reflect much of the light back into the diode. They are clear glass, NOT a mirror. Plus good ones will be AR coated.

A PBS would be no more problem than a normal lens. Besides, generally one focuses the beams before combining them. You would have a hard time getting any sort of efficiency trying to combine two beams with 30 degrees divergence.
