Hello everyone, today, I was shocked when I realized that the announced 5 mw AiXIz module is burning my wallet and produce smoking. I sent an email to AiXIz before buying this module. I received an email that the laser is 4.99 mw. I treated the laser as a 5 mw. I did not wear the protective glasses except when I stared to the beam. I know that nothing happened to my eyes because I always wear my glasses when looking directly at the beam as I treated it as a 5mw. The proximity sensor works great with a range of 3 m detection which is the reason, I suspected the real power of the laser. I s it possible for a 5 mw to burn a wallet and creat a hole ?. I spent more than 50 dollars trying to find a true less than 5 mw 405 nm laser , I would be grateful, if any one who have a true 5 mw or 10 mw could sell it to me.

please let AixiZ help you-- I have a few 405 mini AixiZ modules and IIRC they were true 5 mW- please post the link from the sale & i will see what i can do.

btw most often people want MORE than what they were told- its not often that many want same or less-

405 is a 'tricky' wave length- our eyes donot see it as being 'bright' so our eye's lenses stay dialated - for seeing in the dark- BUT that makes the opening larger and increases the size of the pupil ( ~ 7 mm) thus adding to the 'danger' however i would think to get a burn with a true 5 mW would require AT LEAST a mag. glass to get the very small dot even smaller..& it would take some time and need to be fixed and not moving.

please also be aware that like the mag glass and the sun- the power it grealy increased

as much as 100.000 times greater- this would mean a striaght shot to the center of your eye- max. exposure time is the human blink auto reflex at .25 seconds.

so even the lowly coin cell battery red cat toys can be a danger--in a worst case scenerio.

bbl with more help for you-- Len

Thanks, here is the link where I bought the laser from

I agree with you that people want lasers to be much powerful. I do not have problem with class 3b lasers which is safe for my applicatonn as long as I do not get direct hit, I'm 100 percent safe but, the problem with me is the way you treat the laser. I won't have looked directly at the beam even when wearing protective glasses. My laser goggles proved its quality, it saved me from a possible eye damage.

this one?

405nm Mini Blue Laser Aixiz Exclusive 8x13mm Adj Lens | eBay

I have some of these and dont believe they would smoke even black plastic

actually with some LPMs its not always easy to read such low powers-

back at you when i hear from Chuck-len

Ok you have the 405 line laser- and you prollly had it quite close to the item that burned- I can kinda tell from the AixiZ pic in the listing that it appears to be way more than 5 mW-- looks like an easy 20 mW or moar- just keep it for other uses - PM me your mailing address and I will send you the true 5 or less mini 405 module the same in red and some other stuff. no need to mess with Dr Chuck BUt I WILL let him know aboiut this and you can be sure it will be changed .

let me know if there is anything else i can help you with.

Thanks, I will check if the burning power was due to the G2 lens or not. I'm satisfied with the laser, I will measure the actual power tomorrow at the university lab. If the laser is less than 10 mw, I will call it safe for my application.

whoa what?

this..

"I spent more than 50 dollars trying to find a true less than 5 mw 405 nm laser module, I would be grateful, if any one who have a true 5 mw or 10 mw could sell it to me."

that line laser is $13 how does that become $50- AixiZ sells G2 for 10$ that still far from 50$.

I still happy to send you the mini module takes 3- 5 vdc run all day w/o overheat- two AAs or one 3.7vdc li-ion battery -- its focusable as well.

G lenses are NOT what was used to come up with 5 mW- and I guess you removed the optic that makes the line? that too may change things.

send address -- len

The $ 50 was the total amount of money I paid for all my 405 nm laser pointers and module where both were over spec. Yes, I removed the line lens and replaced it with a G2 lens. Because the beam must be focused in my app

Thanks so much,

yeah- I am betting that removing the line-making optic and swapping the lens out is what increased the power- you made this look like AixiZ did you wrong (kinda) and thats not fair..

the module I am sending you is small and has no host- but you will find a way to make a host- no worry about duty/rest cycle even if you DONT add a heatsink.

I will get one of those from AixiZ and do what you did, then , (plus using the half thread glass for 405nm & 3element glass & the new AixiZ $10 'G-2' ) meter it for all lenses.
must be over 40-50 mW or it would not burn (w/o a lens) your wallet--

lol heard of hobbies burning a hole in a wallet before... just not literally!!

50mW of 405 for 13$ IS A STEAL--
great laser for a 405 lumia--w/ 18650..

I do not blame Aixiz for anything. They ship fast, responds to email. I do not have any problem with burning lasers. I have a 445 nm M140 runs at 2 W. I use it in my designed laser engraver, I treat it with respect and protective glasses are always on whenever the laser is on. However, when you treat a laser as 5 mw and use it in application where direct exposure is very possible and you find by luck that it' should be treated differently. The good thing is that class 3B is safe when avoiding direct exposure, reflection of non reflecting surfaces are considered safe.
