Um, what? 2 computers cannot share an IP. It must be unique. At any rate the next thing to try is to run the Configure E-mail and Internet Connection Wizard on the SBS server. Make sure the sharepoint service is enabled and then try to get to it again.

From a cmd prompt

nslookup companyweb

See if it resolves. Should response with the DNS server, followed by the IP of the server. If this does not resolve, it's a DNS issue.

If it responds and says the domain is 192.168.1.1, then the issue would reside on the server. Probably incorrectly configured IIS.

If it response with your external IP and you are using a .com/.net/etc domain, then you have a loopback issue as routers cannot "loop back" traffic on itself. You probably have the DNS servers set to the ISP. You'd have to setup an internal DNS, which you should have anyway, and forward unresolved queries to the ISP DNS.

If it's non-existent, then it's a DNS issue. Most likely you are using the ISP DNS servers, and not using a .com, .net, etc. The ISP DNS would have no idea what companyweb is. That's the job for internal DNS, which you should have anyway.

Im assuming you mean the Network Config Wizard? That don't seam to work, it just comes up with an error.

No. SBS has it's own config wizard that MUST be used. It's called the Configure E-mail and Internet Connection Wizard and you can get to it from Server Management. It sets up all of the services and ports the server uses. Don't use the normal Nertwork setup wizard on SBS ever. It'll break things.

Before going any further, use the SBS tool to reconfigure/repair your network settings. Make sure that the Sharepoint service is enabled. You'll see where it is when you run the wizard. Don't go changing everything, just run it from beginning to end and verify sharepoint is there. Then restart IIS and try to get to companyweb.

PS- cexshun- It's not DNS outright. He can get to the portal and the error he gets is 404 which means he got to the server. The IIS/Sharepoint setup is pooched. It would help to know the network topology though...

Will this cause any problems with the companys network? Last thing I want is to reconfigure everything and find out that its changed the settings for everything and no ones computers work...
 
Step by step reconfigure IIS-

That's why I said not to change the other settings. From Microsoft's site-

Notes

If you need to reconfigure settings for your network, firewall, secure Web site, or e-mail, you can rerun the Configure E-mail and Internet Connection Wizard. If you do not want to modify settings defined in the last run of the wizard for a specific component, select the option to not make changes for that component. You can then bypass the associated pages for that component.

Running the wizard does not require your computer to restart. However, several services are restarted by the wizard, which may result in a temporary loss of Internet connectivity.

On the last page of the wizard, you can print, save, or e-mail the settings configured by the wizard. The settings are not configured until you click Finish on the last page of the wizard.

So don't change settings you don't need to and double check before clicking 'Finish' and you'll be fine. You only need to fiddle with the IIS settings.

Here's a step by step (copied from a blog, I'll post if I can find the link)-

Run the Configure E-mail and Internet Connection wizard (CEICW) to
reconfigure IIS for Outlook Web Access (OWA), for the Remote Web Workplace
virtual directory, and for the Companyweb Web site. To do this, follow these
steps.

Note These steps assume that you have previously configured your Internet
settings by running the Configure E-mail and Internet Connection wizard. a.
Click Start, and then click Server Management.
b. Under Standard Management, click Internet and E-mail.
c. Click Connect to the Internet, and then click Next.
d. If you receive the following message, click No:
The following Universal Plug and Play router was detected on the network:
Internet Gateway Device UPnP (Internet Gateway Device UPnP)

The wizard can automatically configure the router with the necessary network
settings for your Small Business Server network. Alternatively, you must
configure the router manually. For more information about these options,
click Help.

Do you want the wizard to configure the router?
e. Click Do not change the connection type, and then click Next.
f. Click Do not change firewall configuration, and then click Next.
g. Click Do not change current Web server certificate, if this option is
available, and then click Next.
h. Click Do not change Internet e-mail configuration if this option is
available, and then click Next.
i. Click Finish.
j. When the Configure E-mail and Internet Connection Wizard is finished
configuring Windows Small Business Server, click Close.


If that doesn't work you'll likely have to reinstall IIS. (Not too bad but there are registry edits required...)

Right its all working now...

Now I have the stupidest problem I have ever come across with a CMS. Why the heck cant I add anything to the site that is custom? I need to add a google search bar but that wont work because it doesnt like the <form> tag, I need to add a world clock but for some rediculous reason there are absolutly no simple text based scripts that work on one file without linking elsewhere and the one I currently have companyweb refuses to let me duplicate the same thing in one web part.

What the hell am I meant to do with this if there are no websites for support, no 'official' web parts, not even theme sites. It seams im just stuck with a basic site that only has 2 of the things the company has asked for.

First of all- Congratulations on getting it running! IIS issues can be a pain...

As to Companyweb, the files are stored in SQL rather than the filesystem. You need frontpage to edit it directly. This isn't too bad as SBS comes with Frontpage. Simply open Frontpage and goto File->Open Web and open http://companyweb

Also there are some templates in c:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\60\

Hmm right ok, I will give that a try. It might be easier than editing the files manually...

Edit: Ok thats stupid, this computer doesnt have frontpage.
Double Edit: That was easy, getting frontpage installed now.
 
Thats helped a lot, thanks.

I still can't seam to get the search to work though. When I add the script into a web part everything looks fine until I click search and it just refreshes the page and puts a load of rubbish in the search bar.

Any ideas?

Without seeing the actual HTML code you're using, I can't say what your issue is. You are welcome to PM me the relevant bits or post them in this thread. (If you post, redact anything that could be used to identify your company or site...)

If it helps the theme I am using (and have modified) is the default Spring theme. For the search I am creating a XML Form Web Part and pasting in different google search scripts I can find online. The ones online just seam to refresh the page though... The script the site puts into it by default just refreshes the page and puts random characters in the search bar.

I would post the code I am using but really its just a google search script.
 
Ok its all up and running smoothly and I released it to the company on Wednesday. All is going well but I have one issue where there is one person who thought it would be funny to change a few item titles... It only happened once and stopped after I changed it back but is there a way I can restrict users from editing other peoples items?

I know you can stop people editing files but that way no one can edit their own files.

Here's my best guess-

If your company is smaller you probably used the 'power users' template to set up your users. By default the 'domain power users' group belongs to share point administrators. Thus all your users can edit each others files. To correct this, open Active Directory Users & Computers and got to: your_domain->My Business->Security Groups then open the Properties pages for the 'Sharepoint Administrators' group.  Remove 'Domain Power Users' from the members tab. You may also have to grant explicit permissions to each user after you do this... YMMV.

Thats one way I guess...

I just went through the important categories and set them to that users can only edit their own items. That has worked perfectly :)
 
All is working great :)

I have a new issue though... By default you have the navigation links on the left, a column down the middle and a third column down the right hand side.

I noticed when you create a new web part you can have different parts next to each other in one column. Is there any way I can do this on the default home page? All I can seam to do is put them on top or under each other, the page is getting so long that I feel its getting really over crowded...
