I am planning on making my first DIY laser and i have all the parts ready to make the driver but i don't know where to get a laser diode. I was going to get a used DVD burner from ebay but i wondered if there is anywhere else i could get a diode.

Agreed, try OdiForce if you don't want to ship over seas. Looks like they sell safety glasses too!

I've never bothered with buying from the UK, most of my lasers come from the US (DTR usually ) or China. But Odiforce seems to be a good option. Usually the prices are better outside the UK, but the 1W 520 has caught my eye for not a bad price..
