Where to buy a >2 watt laser diode on the cheap?

The good news is that the MPE distance for a 1W 808 diode off a matte surface for momentary exposure 1/4 second is about a foot. Thing is the "dim" dot is cooking your eyeballs about the same as looking at the sun for the same period of time at that distance. so even if it doesn't feel like it hurts, it HURTS...

So pointers and IR aside... there isn't a easy way to get above 3W with colored lasers even in a lab setting? Anyone ever experiment much with etching diodes?

did you find a reliable source for the 2W 808nm 9mm diode yet? If so, where? How much? What glass lens did you use? thanks

My question about diodes as well as that of the OP on this thread is for a 9mm diode in a TO-5 can.

Not laser bar, not C-mount, etc. etc. etc...

I don't think I have seen any 9mm TO-5 infrared diodes claim to go over 2Watt. I could be wrong but...

Now, Rayfoss has a 3Watt pointer but I don't know what diode is in it. It could be a 3Watt TO-3 can but since almost all DIY build kits here are for the TO-5 can or smaller, that is what we have to go with. Even with the larger TO-5 can, we have to get a special overbored Aixiz clone module.

Unless you have your own machine shop, our choices are limited.
