Goggles for green lasers. I want the best value for my $$, at the same time, without going "cheap" on my vision.

Any of you guys have much experience with goggle buying?

Good goggles are any that meet government certification standards. These are more expensive by default, since a lot of research and development and such goes into getting your goggles certified. There are very few goggles out there that are actually certified, since the market really seems to think the use of their eyes isn't worth more than $50... It's unfortunate, really.

A member here, frothychimp, is our resident expert on safety equipment. The company he works for recently started selling low-priced goggles for hobbyists, and as far as I know they're the best deal around for eyewear that's actually certified.

ebay is actually a great place for goggles if you know what to look for. I got a pair of OD4+ goggles that are meant for argon wavelengths (514 and shorter) but they also block 532 very well. I could point my prometheus into them while it was doing 400mW and not see ANY green on the other side. They work for all my lasers with the exception of red lasers and they can sometimes be found for as little as $5. Granted, they aren't the most 'stylish' looking goggles, but they are very high quality with glass lenses that are interchangeable.

Here are the goggles I have (I got them for free with my HGM argon laser, but I've seen these go for as low as $5. I lost the bid on a set a few months ago; I set my high bid at $10 and they went for $10.50)
