Where is IR ?

IR - Where exactly is it spewing out to? Is it just within the beam or does it diffuse out into open air? What I'm wondering is if standing near a beam or near the source can cause IR damage without taking a shot to the eye.

I have done some searching and don't mean to post about something if it's already been done. So if there is already a post about this, a link would suffice.

No, you will be ok. I promise. The IR spill from a DPSS laser is negligible.

Welcome to the forum.  :)

Oh... and it comes out the same place that all the other light comes from...

Edit: If I find some links I'll post them... I can go on for days about how excess IR is not dangerous.

This one is kinda lengthy and is on the verge of becoming an argument, but I think it has more information than the first two.

But in case your still wondering, the IR is in a beam, but it's more like a flashlight: it diverges much quicker than the visable light. But yes, unless you have a greenie with an output of, like, 100mW, you don't need to worry about IR. And most 100mW greenies will have IR filters, if they're bought from tried-and-true companies.

Welcome to the forum, BTW.

Infrared general starts at 750nm and continues in the longer wavelengths.  There, you will find IR.
