where can i get 473nm blue diodes?

Did someone say $30,000? Just a guess though, as they don't technically mass produce them since there isn't really a practical application for them, or what about laser TV's? muahahaahah!

actually much less

$3850

and can be ready in 3-4 weeks

So they just build you a diode from scratch? Yea, $3850 sounds fair. :P

I remember a couple of months ago, nicha (I may have spelled that wrong) built a 500mW 455nM laser diode that cost ~$3000! (I forget how much exactly but it was near $3000)

If you think about it, that is really cheap! How much does a class 4 DPSS blue usually cost?

A lot more. ;)

That's incredibly cheap, when you compare it to a class IV laser of any visible wavelength, then factor in that it's not 473nm, but 455nm!

500mW would be a multimode diode, not quite as much fun, and not as exciting.

And yeah, all these are basically one-offs at this point, and $3000-4000 is more than reasonable from their point of view for a one-off laser diode for how much they have to do to make one of these things.

From a big pot of gold at the end of the rainbow...

Laser projectors(to replace today's bulb-driven digital movie/data projectors) more specifically..

A true median blue will be needed to make these work properly.. The same goes for the super-rare green diodes that are out there. There is a long way to go with these since they need to be able to vary the brightness of each individual color to produce a proper image.

I am sure there are other applications for these, but I am also pretty sure laser projectors are one of them:)

For me though, I will stick to my huge 3 tubed beastly CRT projectors until laser projectors surface/become affordable.. I am quite pick about what I watch in my theater ;D
