The highest power 800-830nm IR single mode laser diode I can seem to find is 300-500mw, if I am to believe the sellers claims. Does anyone know if a 1 watt single mode IR laser diode exists at close to 800nm? Looking for something in the fifty dollar price range, I found one on ebay claiming to be 1 watt, but I can't get the diode manufactures info to confirm it, so won't buy it.

Hmm, I had a look but I can't find anything single mode at that power. Probably best to start going with single mode fiber at those kinds of powers. That'll get you a nice gaussian beam.

May I ask what you're trying to do? :D

Thanks, but that's the one on ebay I found and can't get a manufacturers part number from them to confirm if it really is single mode or not. 1 watt seems like a lot for single mode, even if at 808nm. Although, there are some blue ray 405nm single mode diodes which can do close to that, or more, if you drive them hard. Edit: Heh, I had to come back to answer your question... but on second thought, I will PM the answer to you :p

Alaskan --have a look here: New 808nm 1W 5nm 9mm to 5 Near Infrared Laser Diode Single Transverse Mode | eBay New 808nm 1w +/-5nm 9mm TO-5 near-infrared laser diode Single transverse mode $36 each

Also here: New 808nm 1W 5nm 9mm to 5 Near Infrared Laser Diode Fiber Compression | eBay New 808nm 1w +/-5nm 9mm TO-5 near-infrared laser diode Fiber Compression

Wouldn't trust that first one to be single mode. Multimode with FAC might not be so bad though!

Probably expensive, but I will check it out, thanks.

I found some 200mw 830nm single mode diodes with a 1 x 3 um emitter size for 39 dollars here: Laser Diode 200mW 830nm Single Mode Infrared SDL JDSU 5431 J1 54 00213 | eBay

If I expand the raw output of a diode with that small of an output emitter, I am figuring a 100mm diameter lens would produce some ultra low divergence to deliver several times more light at a great distance than a diode at the same power output and a 100um wide emitter when using that same amount of expansion. At least the 1um slow axis should be 10 times brighter due to 10X less divergence, true?

Hi Alaskan, where did you find a real single mode laser at 830nm with power 300-500mW? I've found only the Mitsubishi ML60171C, but it is only 260mW..

I am looking ap single mode IR laser diode too. This seller offer 5X JDSU 830nm 200mW laser diode 54-00213 for 45$ on ebay. Link Model number indicates that it is working in single mode. Price is quite nice, but 5 diodes is too much for me.

I believe he was selling just one of these diodes for close to 30 dollars before, guess they weren't moving. This seller shows the diodes in China, but when I ordered from him in the past they actually came from Israel and he isn't Chinese, he is Israeli.
