What should a laser sound like?

Ok guys, yes this is mostly for fun. But assuming lasers actually made noise when they fired, perhaps due to some internal workings of a very loud switching power supply or whatever, what do you think would be the coolest sound they could make would be?

To kick it off, let's go back to some classic examples.

Ok, we've all heard this in about a million different shows and cartoons, but I think War of The Worlds got first credit for this (the main "heat ray" sound." So how 'bout it?

Or then there's the more modern War of The Worlds "heat ray" sound ... more like electricity or an electrical arc. Personally I don't think this would go good with a laser but I had to list it.

Then we have the classic "pulse" sound, as seen in this opener for the 1970s cartoon, Flash Gordon.

And perhaps the most famous sound of all, who could ever forget the ever classic Star Trek hand phaser sound.

Any of the above? Or feel free to add additional examples of your own and then lets have a poll/vote on it.

WHAT WOULD BE THE COOLEST SOUND FOR A LASER?

What should a laser sound like?

I guess it would depend on from how high you drop it
and what it falls on...

I suppose it depends on the power source. Mains powered lasers often emit a 50/60 Hz humm from their supplies. Pulsed operated lasers could sound like a photoflash going off (increasing pitch from the charger and a pop on discharge).

But thats all power supplies at work - i suppose lasers just dont make much sound themselves, nor does the impact ont he beam on most materials. Only when beam energy density is high enough to breakdown air you get a sound - a bit like an electrical spark.

Its stuff for the movies though, so people make up whatever is 'artistically' right. You get a similar thing in sci-fi movies that feature explosions in space. Obviously those should be completely silent (unless the debris hits the hull of the ship you're watching from), but moviemakes usually make a nice exploding sound out of it.
