God yes Cyparagon is right - the ones on my scanset get really warm just idling. I thought this was unusual but silly me continues and I ran them for 30 seconds at 12K ILDA test pattern and they were too hot to touch. I turned them off and sat them in front of the fan for a few minutes to cool off.
The amps are usually bolted to a heatsink of some kind (like the baseplate of a projector) to disperse the heat, as Cyparagon said. Dont let them get that hot again, or they'll probably blow up.
