What kind of red laser should I build?

I am thinking about building a red laser, but i know there are many different wavelengths and I don't know what power I should get? Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. I just finished building my 445 yesterday and will be looking for a new project soon.

635nm is a beautiful visible color, there are diodes floating around on ebay.
LOC is a cheap burner at 200+mW.

What purpose do you wish to pursue with it?

maybe a little burning, mainly to just play around with, it would be great it it had a nice beam :yh:

Well most affordable 635nm diodes would have a hard time burning, so there you go, DVD burner diode it is.
