Yeah, I think I've seen a video where one of these was used. They expanded the beam so it was a few inches wide at a few hundred feet and then used a large double convex lens to focus the beam and light a match! I think it was 260ft away or so. Something that would be very interesting if you have money to spare.

That seller keeps changing the deal. Now the shipping fee is $30? Anyway, he's been listing them on eBay for months now. I tried picking one up before, but the seller was a total pain in the butt and I wasn't able to get my hands on one. How exactly it works? I have no clue.

The general idea behind a beam expander is just diverging the beam and then recollimating it so that your beam diameter is larger, but your divergence is smaller. How that system, in particular, works... Well, you'll have to buy SenKat and I some to play with and find out!
