What is the form factor of diodes found in DVD burners?

Chrisbee gave you the link, but yes, they are good to have. There are other ways to press the diode but the press tools make it easy and reliable.

You'll need a vice to a press it with too ...

$25 really isn't too bad for what it is. That'll get you the press tool, the extraction tool (super handy!) and the brass alignment collar.

But you can always make your own too.
