Yeah I'd rather put that 50/mo towards my own tools.

nearest one to me is 90 miles + a toll fee both ways. I checked the other places for relatives, but its a similar story - about 100 miles in every direction. $50/month would go well toward tools, but if a person doesn't plan on doing this for 20 years, having access to $10,000+ worth of equipment is nice. At my school they charge closer to $500 for 3 months of access, once you count their hidden fees.
