Seeing all this talk about proposed laser legislation has got me thinking about an idea involving a video project that would be informative about the true dangers of lasers when it comes to using them and what they can really do to pilots of planes. The video could also go into detail about laser terms like mw and nm and describe why safety goggles are important. Perhaps this point can be driven across by showing pictures of scarred eye tissue from lasers and explaining how the permanent vision loss can be caused in milliseconds. For the plane idea I was thinking if we could use a sensitive camera on a remote control helicopter and adjust the divergence on the laser to match it from a much farther distance. We could then maybe edit the video and emphasize how the light messed up the rendering of all other lights and we could also show images from those FAA simulations. I know some of this may sound tedious and ridiculous , but if we could educate people they may educate others about this and EVEN if we stop 50 people we will still do some good and who knows one of those 50 or so people may be the one that would finally drive the nail in the coffin for lasers. We'd have to spread this far and wide and I'd be able to help with that, but I need some people who are good with making videos. Please discuss this in this topic and don't just let it die. We all want to be able to enjoy lasers and every little thing can INFACT help and this CAN make the community look good.
