if somewere on the sides are 3 pins in a round base(with some cable ribbon on)there is laser diode.
You then take diode out(if its glued or weldet in then wile would be good)then...dont touch the glass!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Here is good tutorial for harvesting phr sled but it will help you!

p.s you will find 2 dioder there other red and other ir diodes i used DMM in diode setting to see wich one ermits red ligth (it will be wery dim ligth in diode(shine it to some dark surface to see))

hope this helped someway! :)

p.s.s try to rezize you imgs ;D

^ I don't think this is a PHR - he says it's from DVD burner

Take your time, use the right tools, and its important to have a vice that can hold everything.

Ok, I'm pretty sure I destroyed the diode I was trying to extract, but I found two laptop drives at work, I already got whatever I could out, but tell me, which of these are diodes, one was a cd burner/dvd reader, and one a dvd burner.

I'm sorry I can't see the images that well, they are blurry, could you possibly upload images with a better resolution?

The Diode should look like this.

Very small. it's inside of a sled, probably soldered.

usually you'd have to de-solder the diode out.

which can be found in this
