Besides destroying it and making a DIY Dvd burner or heating it up with a blow torch ::)
I just opened one up and the diode and most of the electronics was incased in a block of aluminum...

What could you really do by modding a 5mW pointer? I mean, you won't be able to boost the power to burning capabilities without reducing the diodes life to 3 seconds. And even then, most of the smoke and burning you'll see will be from the electronics, not the target!

I see you saw the video. ;D Yup, I second what Murudai said, you just can't mod a red pointer, maybe a green but not a red.

hahah, yeah I saw the video ;)
Anyway, I had read about turning up the potentiometer or whatever on greenies, wasnt sure if it was do-able on a red.
* waiting for his 30mW green*
Thanks

You can't mod the small red pointers, in fact you can't really mod any green lasers these days.

Yeah, not a great result but I don't see how you can get better than that without replacing the diode and keeping the longevity of use...

Even by replacing the diode in a Newer 5mW green pointer won't give you much more green. The crystals are so small that they get saturated at 5mW so they are sold as 5mW.

If anybody has a leadlight and a 5mW NewWish pointer you will know that the leadlight has MUCH better battery life because the crystals are beefy and higher quality, and in the NewWish pointers that the pump diode is most likely pushed to the max to saturate the crystals.
