Hey LPF,
This is just a thread for my recent build. I finished building this awesome little build on the 21st. So I've
been getting used to it for the past few days and having fun :)

Some of the photos are a little superfluous and not exactly needed but I just thought I'd put them in
anyway to look at.

Also, if anyone is building one of these and has questions , don't hesitate to ask!

It's not a relatively powerful laser, but I'm very happy with it. It has a great duty cycle since it's set at a conservative
amperage. Which also means long life! and good battery life!

That being said, this does burn just as well as any other PHR build you'll find. It lights matches instantly and
pops balloons like nothing! But that's expected as I think everyone is so desensitized to these tricks on here! ;)

I've always wanted to build a pen-style laser and was always discouraged since I thought aligning the button for the
switch would be a pain. But these Leadlight hosts are a breeze! I epoxyed the switch assembly to the correct position
and the button has glue already on it which holds it in place real nice!

Here's a parts list for the build, as well as some photos to go along with it!

Diode: PHR-805t 405nm
Driver: Groove2
Host: Black Leadlight (When you order it from CajunLasers it comes with the switch board assembly,
but its an optional accessory if you buy from Jayrob)

It's worth noting I used the now famous silicon wire. It's so nice and flexible but makes a sturdy connection!
Definitely my new laser building wire!

(^That's the PHR recessed in the AixiZ Module)

All of these components can be found at CajunLasers.com

(This is how the Driver looks when the wires on soldered on :tinfoil:)

Jayrob also offers the same exact host so be sure to also check out his thread on it! (P.S Special thanks to Jay for
clearing up some questions I had!)

Clif, the guy who runs it, ships quick! He's definitely going to be my new supplier!

Anyway here are some more shots of the laser!

(This is the diodes uncollimated dot. It has something on the glass window of the diode, but I don't want
to try to remove it because I'm sure I'd mess it up. Besides, its so low powered I don't think it'll
cause a problem  )

Nice, phr's are always fun ;)

My first laser build was a phr pen and I still have and use it. (well, if you dont count a failed kipkay minimag laser hack :p) It's the perfect power for engraving on plastic.

These PHR's are so much fun. I remember the first builds I did with them. Oh the joy... and frustration. But I love these pen hosts! Oh man.... that mini-mag was so enticing to me. I ALMOST built it, but luckily found this site before I jumped the gun!

Very nice laser to carry around

Why did you choose the groove 2 and not for e.g. this one:
New 405nm laser diode driver / adjustable to 600mA [OL-N405D-600] - $11.50 : Zen Cart!, The Art of E-commerce

It´s cheaper and it boosts. Dont know if its any good but seems decent. You would have to find a way to wire the two 10440 in parellel or use just one with a spacer or you just wanted that set up?

I opted for the Groove2 for 3 reasons

1.) It was available on the site I ordered from so shipping was for the whole order
2.) IIRC, O-Like ships from China and takes a long time
3.) I think I heard those don't have reverse voltage protection or smoothing capacitors. And I also am not sure if that would have fit well in the space I was given. So I guess you could say I chose the Groove2 out of familiarity :)

Also, boost drivers have lower efficiency and consequently shorter run-times

Very nice business-like build, looking good.
You should spray paint the focus ring black for a more slick look. :) When i made my PHR I was also going to use a groove driver.
I ended up going premium for a microboost which is probably overkill for such a low build but i've had zero issues.
Yeah o-like ships from china so it takes a while. Now im eyeballing those boost drivers for my next project lol, those didn't exist.

haha thanks. yeah my first thought was to paint the ring, but I thought it might come out bad. yeah Groove2's are nice linear drives in my opinion. I've done a bunch of other PHR's using other drivers, Microboost included, and for the most part they're all pretty straight forward. If you use that driver, let the forum know how it pans out!

That is a nice little host, I have the same one for my 300mw bluray. I messed up the driver/switch holder so I hade to make one but it is a great little unit. I like how the axiz housing slides right in and is very snug. Nice build, on a side note mine fluoresces my marble floor tiles, coolest thing but not sure why.

What diode did you use for yours to get 300mW? That's awesome!

Hmm well its probably just made of material that fluoresces! I mean 405nm loves fluorescing things!

The diode is out of a 6X burner, don't remember which one because it has been about a year. I'm using a micro flex driver, I pushed it too far though. I had it close to 320mW but ended up burning it out! Time to build a new one!

I've never heard of a 6x being pushed that far! did you have someone meter it when it still worked? You must've had the freakiest of all freak diodes!
