I found this over at hackaday..

The author goes pretty deeply into the methodology of getting a ruby rod to lase and what is required. He also goes into the construction of a power supply for the flash-lamp and types of flash-lamps. Its not up and running yet, but is a great explanation on the technology behind how the first laser was created.

He does a lot of other incredibly interesting DIY projects. Scanning electron microscope, vapor deposition, raman spectroscopy, X-rays...

Made one in college decades ago. Who will be next to try?

Been bouncing around the idea for some time, though I doubt I'll be next, it'll likely be a while until I do.

Though I like this man's teaching style, I am able to absorb every word he says.

What a video!

Yah, Ben is great. He came to me a few months back asking about proper flashlamp geometry for ruby lasers when the topic came up in conversation on YT.
