I hope you don't mean something like this, but instead you're referring to your soldering iron...

If you're using a soldering gun, the problem is likely that it's too hot. Soldering guns are not appropriate to solder things like flexdrives.

If your solder is balling up and turning grey you should lower your heat.. At the right temperature, with the right amount of flux it should just wick right into the hole and stay a shiny silver color. It just takes practice, don't get discouraged.

I bought one of the exact same Solder Stations for someone a while back...
They are total crap...
The tips are not coated properly and will not tin correctly...
I would not recommend this product to anyone...
you need to get a better iron... :'(

If you have a can of paste, dip the tip of the iron in it prior to soldering. The ball will flatten the second it hits the flux.

The solder gets like that when the rosin burns off.. I solder at higher temps than most people do, the trick to that is just be fast about it.

A wet sponge is also a good idea, without mine, id be lost. :-/

If you want cheap, reliable soldering irons, try aoyue.
Mine is a AOYUE 936 soldering station, with .5 and 1mm tips. Regulable heat, quick heating...

and all for only 50€
