I know in phpBB there is a mod that makes it so a new user cannot make a new topic on their first post. Is there one like this for YaBB? I think it would stop the spam problem going on around here, because the "No link till 20 posts" mod can't stop these bots that post no link.

And for the people that thinks it would hurt the legit posters, this would not affect many because a new user has a low chance of starting a topic on their first post if they actually read around and searched before asking questions.

I don't think that's 100% fair, because you never know what someone might have in mind. HOWEVER, I agree with you because it would significantly lower spammers.

yeah you shouldn't be able to post a new topic until your third post.

i haven't noticed any spam in the last week or so. i reduced the posting a link rule to 10 posts. have i been missing some spam? would help if you all could point me to the spam topics in case im missing it

i dont think there is a mod that can accomplish this unfortunately, but i will check

i think a mod like this might annoy a lot of new members who are anxious to ask a question. i wouldn't want this to aggravate new users that put in the effort to register/etc

Just so you know, this thread is old, I made it over a month ago when spam was a problem. The spam problem is fine now.

oops my bad styropyro, didn't notice that :-[

@styrocoolfirethingy: NOBODY EVER reads the timestamps

@acethehyperawesoem: not 100% fair? you'd be only 1 post away from creating a thread. you could remove the 10 posts before any links (which you'd be 10 posts away from ;))

@c0ldthemaster: dont worry, i've not seen any spam this week
