assuming mrad 1.0     0ne second after pointing my new toy into into the night sky,its beam diameter is 185.999 miles  :o

another usless fact brought to you by beer............... ;D ::)

Hmm.. as long as the dot in "185.999" miles is a decimal separator, it looks right ;)

so thats what You do when you get drunk...

calculate lengths of your laser beam for given ON time?!?
;D ;D [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

cheers man. [smiley=beer.gif]

Hehe.. and then specify the maximum ontime in astronomical units?

Our wickedest laser has an ontime of 4 a.u.! sounds more impressive than stating it'll eat its batteries in half an hour ;p

hahaha,,,was outside one night just beaming away into the heavens and i wondered how big (diameter) my beam would be after one second............ and thats coherant light, after one second.........imagine the light from a star, not coherant at all, travelling for thousands of years......its a wonder we can see starlight at all when you think about it! :o :P

p.s benm yes its a deciamal seperator......... was going to post 186 miles but.................. [smiley=beer.gif]

I had 3 beers and I had to convert from meters to miles but I came up with:

186.282 miles
or
186 miles and 496.517 yards.

Speed of light is measured in vacum so I should have compenstated for that 40 miles or so of atmosphere from ground to the sky before that beam actualy starts traveling in a vacum.
It has been 3 beers though so Im sticking to 186.282 miles

:P
