USA Importing question for you experts

Ive read through some of the sticky's on importing and they pretty much say its illegal to import something over 5mW.

CNI also said they wont ship anything over 5mW and quoted from $105 to $450 for a 5mW laser per unit which I know is absurd.

But, WL is selling 5W lasers all day long I assume legally... I found this on WL's website

This states that if there is a lock on the laser its legal?

So my questions are:

1. How is WL able to legally sell and ship out 5W lasers or 2.5W?

2. What regulations make import legal on lasers over 5mW?

WL is doing it illegally. Their "FDA" "Compliance" is fake. WL is listed as a black-list company on customs and routinely has packages confiscated. Has been this way for years.

It's sorta just things that you don't talk about. WL's are selling their stuff illegally. A good way to think of it is, if it's above 5mW's, it's most likely illegal.

I'm not any expert, just a new member like you, but I can say with some certainty that if you dig deep enough, you will know why that brand may not be the choice for you. Self builds/kits are the way to go, IMO.

You are confused about 'legal' ..

Also as the 'importer' you also need to hold a variance NOT just the seller.

aside from a key or code lock..

they need to have an emissions indicator
a delayed start
a shutter
a variance ( for both parties)
and more

dont let non-enforcement confuse you with the actual regs.

IF a DJ does a show with illegal lasers and someone claims or reports an injury the DJ WILL get a visit from ther FDA.. aka the laser police.


anyone not totally sure the advice given is NOT 100% accurate you would be wise to not post at all-- leave that to the real experts..:beer:
