;D  Fitted with a 2W 808nm laser diode, 18650 and D=25mm, f=20mm NA=0.5  aspheric AR lens for maximum burning at distance!

Also includes, graduated Iris to allow power variation and control on spot size.  No, its not fully operational just yet, but it will be in a  while!

lol Good grief. 2 watts eh?

The glass you're using on this one intrigues me. What was the optical assembly originally built to be used as?

Unless you've got a single mode diode focus will not be that great. However 2 watts of organized radiation will burn 8-)

Re: Tremble in fear- behold the mighty incinerator

That constuction makes the mxdl look absolutely tiny :)

Looking forward to action shots!

Re: Tremble in fear- behold the mighty incinerator

Yeah, single mode laser.  The glass is AR coated aspheric 25mm diameter at about 20mm from the LD.  The large spot allows tight focussing on objects both near and far.  The optical assembly is my own - built from Thorlabs components.

Where did you obtain the diode??

If it's single mode you've got a stinger with that optical assembly. Looks like fun.

Re: Tremble in fear- behold the mighty incinerator

I don't think single mode IR diodes exist beyond 100mW.

Yes FAC, I.e. fast axis correction. Basically a cylindrical lens at the end of the die to correct for high divergence in one plane due to the necessarily large strip width on high powered laser diodes (to keep the flux below the damage level).

Re: Tremble in fear- behold the mighty incinerator

Gotcha. Thanks. The other axis being the slow axis, which the external lens focus?

Re: Tremble in fear- behold the mighty incinerator

The FAC corrects the fast axis. Light diffracts through a greater angle from a smaller aperture so the strip nature of the output coupler means higher divergence on one axis compared to the other.

Re: Tremble in fear- behold the mighty incinerator

Where did you get the 1W single-mode diode, and what did it cost?
