Has anybody had the privilege of using one of the “state of the art” GPS systems? I got one for Christmas. It is really cool and it has some cool fetures, if your hungry and don’t know what you want, you can see nearby restaurants (including fast food). You can see the upcoming road names, and anticipate the curves on the road ahead (if you like mountain driving/racing :D). It has a memory for unlimited storage for favorites. All kinds of preference options like day light, night light, 2 female, 1 male voices, compass, and much more. If you use the sound, it will annoy the crap out of you because it has something to say like every 10 seconds! And as far as navigating, IT SUCKS! The thing has no sence of practicality and will ALWAYS make you go the extremely LOOOOONG way around to get anywhere if you actually have no idea where your going. In conclusion, it’s cool but absolutely STUPID. Just thought I’d share that.

You can do a lot by playing with the settings Ace. Turn of the annoying sound for one. Always pick the fastest route when navigating and make sure you've got the latest maps. I've grown to appreciate mine a lot, especially when I haven't a clue where I'm going. It's always found shortcuts for me if I chose the "Shortest Route" option.

You'll just have to play with it until you figure out whether "Fastest" is better than "Shortest" in your area.

I'm sure you'll like it in time, but I suggest a nice Garmin if you need a GPS for off-road adventures. TomToms are useless for that.

I've been using a Tom Tom 710 for about a year now.
It's main use is to get me and my friend who's a singer to venues. Some places are really hard to find sometimes, but since I got the Tom Tom, we have very few problems.
There's some unofficial updates for the 710 too. Like a divx video player program. Handy for those boring moments when I'm hanging about waiting for my cousin and her mates to come out of nightclubs when I'm giving them a lift.

Dunno about the points of interest though. All it finds around where I live is Maccy D's and KFC. Loads of them.
I prefer proper food when I go out, but it's not easy to find a decent restaurant around here anymore. :-/

Going to e testing it with campsites this summer. That's if we get one this year. Last year it rained most weekends
and only got to go away once. Then late summer it rained everyay for 6 weeks straight.
I want to take the RGY scanner and treat the whole field to a late evening laser show. Even bought a little
device for converting 12v DC off the car battery into 240v AC the laser needs to work. 8-) Sooooo Cooool.

I use my AT&T Tilt Pocket PC phone. i can install any gps software i want, and i've used tomtom, and ive got to say i really dont like it, the graphics look like they were made it microsoft paint. I recomend iGO. iGO Myway 2006 Plus. iGO 8 is comming out really soon.
Overall iGO is much better than TomTom, in every way.
 
I have a Garmin 60CSx. I've been happy with it for the most part. I just wish they loaded some voices. The only sounds you can pick from are a few different beeps. I am going to take a different route to visit my family in June. I found a way to use my laptop as the "GPS." I have to load my mapping software to it then load up nRoute. It will use my 60CSx as the antenna. That will allow me to have a bigger screen plus voices.

Best is Garmin XT - When the IGO8 releases the North America Maps I'll give that a run to compare to Garmin

i havn't tried Navigon Mobile 6 Garmin XT yet, I'll have to give them a go!

I really want software that will let you use satellite images that are stored on your phone, not Google maps which temporarily caches it if you have an internet connection, i mean built into the map file. If it's just for a certain area or state it wouldn't be incredibly big, now for the whole US, that would be a bit too big.

I have Sprint Mogul phone/ppc WinMo 6

Garmin has Ocean, Lakes, Waterways and topo maps that will work with their software in addition to their Navigator roads maps

I have a Garmin Nuvi. Can do pretty much everything plus store mp3s with an SD card with a radio FM transmitter.
