GB diode, a bit of additional cooling to the aixiz module, 200 mA, and a cigarette...

Takes a minute, but fun!

ps.. don't try this with the cigarette in your mouth as you have to get dangerously close to the beam - if you see what it does to the removed, you can imagine what it does to your eyes.

What kind of additional cooling Benm?

I think lighters will be quicker until we get well over 1 watt of power - but the trick is a classic no less ;)

See picture.. it's a heatsink intended for to-39 sized transistors, but bent out a bit to fit around the module. I applied some thermal compount and used pliers to make it fit snugly again by pinching the fanes. By no means a great solution, but it helps a bit.

Nah it's not, running at 250 mA i just managed to do it in about 15 seconds. I'll have a friend make a video of it sometime, it's kinda hard to get that right with a cam on a little tripod and everyting.

Hehe.. obtaining that would be no problem here in holland ;)

Smoking dope while messing with lasers that actually can set your joints on fire might not be the safest plan, however.

Oooo now I like that heatsink.

Too bad i don't have any more in this size. The ones without the larger vanes are easily found, but i guess i'll have to roam some electronics dump to find more of these larger ones.

Any guess what wattage that laser's running at? I've never seen an acctuall measurement, but WL claims their spyder series can light cigs, and the spyders are only 200mw (dont smoke, I'm just curious about the sheer ammount of power because IIRC tobacco isn't dry, its acctually still somewhat moist and thus doesnt burn as well as, say, paper or even wood)
