i guess i will just go randomly wandering stores until i find something, maybe i can find a kids toy with a nice clear mirror on it that isn't glass most of those i think are mirrored on the surface
hmm, i just had a cool idea and i don't believe anyone has talked about it much.
is there anywhere to buy the crystals needed for a green laser cheap?
i would like to build my own 100+ mw, but i am not sure where i can find the crystals or if it is even economical to buy the crystals separately maybe i could just buy a very cheap laser with crystals that are large enough to produce 100+ mw? and build my own pump?
Well you cant build your own pump, but you could buy one, though it would be very hard to build a DIY green, you need IR safety glasses as well as green and a camera to view the IR, and a host , and it would be REALLY hard to correctly align the crystals, your better of just buying.
I also support nova because I have seen so many good reviews, and one of my friends used to own a nova laser, and it was great, but he sold it
i don't mind spending a day a week or even a month aligning the crystals as far as building my own pump i am sure it could be done all i would really ahve to do is design a driver for a ir diode and then get the beam from the ir laser diode hitting the crystals then the rest should be alignment anyway i was just curious if you can get the crystals anywhere cheap?
Ebay, but you cant really build your on pump diode, but you could buy one, and then fit it inside the module from a DX laser along with the crystals, might want to talk to wannaburn about this though, he has made a few DIY greenies I think.
Ok i received my 2 dx true 30 mw lasers and both of them seem to be ok... if i leave one on for about 2 mins and then turn the other on fresh you can see the difference in brightness. but at night i couldn't notice a dimming. one i only used for about 5 mins total and never saw any problems with it.(it is the present) the other i ran out a whole charge on some 800 mah rechargeable AAA's i had been using for R/C they usually lasted about 3x as long as normal batteries and gave me a shitload more power.
uh oh ... yesterday i dropped it maybe 2 feet from my pocket to the floorboard in the car ... the laser was putting out a kinda star shaped light with spikes comming off of it ... so i decided to smack it a few times ... after a few good smacks it went back to a good solid beam ... then i noticed there was alittle cast off around it ... well i was ok with that .
then today i had it in my pocket at work showing it to people and i went to try it out and it had the beam surrounded by concentric triangles with the corners squared off ... i don't know what to do i tried to take it apart but even with a vice and vice grips i am not strong enough to pull it apart i had a guy much larger than me at work try and he couldn't get it either ... i am thinking about doing surgery with dremel tool
edit:
i think that it is the crystals that are out of line ... i tried to tighten the lens with a small screw driver and it wouldn't move at all
HOLD IT HOLD IT, try cleaning the lens, my mates laser did this because his lens was well, scratched to hell, but mines does this if I get a hair or something on the lens.
you think some rubbing alchol and a q-tip would do the deal? since i have messed up the end of it now ... i have a good view of the lense and it really looks spotless but i will clean it anyway... but it just seems weird that it went from a perfect(kinda) beam to one with much cast off after 1-2 foot drop onto carpet...
