After much waiting and several hiccups along the way I now have a new 493nm laser in a 501B host I got from Lifetime17. Thank you, Rich. Also a great appreciation for the free host for my 502nm build.

The host is not that fancy, but it provides enough passive cooling through its heat sink to keep the wavelength down to 493nm.

Now for some beam shots. These photos are fairly close to what I see in person, but there is no substitute for the real thing.

So, there you go. It is a fantastic color I hope everyone here will get a chance to see in person. I appreciate your comments, both good and bad, and it was enjoyable to bring this review to all of my fellow members.

That's a pretty nice laser. Definitely worthy of the saying, "Green with envy". Wish I can rep you for that nice build.

Thank you, DrMario. It was a struggle for awhile, but it's done now and man, what a color! I appreciate your kind words.
 
I can almost imagine the struggle, at least you got it done. And yes, I got ahold of Lifetime17, he is going to look at Convoy S2+ LED flashlight host (since it look pretty neat by itself), so I should be getting the heatsink from him within a week of February or so, for the 505nm green laser. I am looking forward to this build.

Where did you get the 505nm diode? Is it case positive or neutral. Do you know the actual wavelength?


Hi, RedCowboy. Yes, it is beautiful in the dark. I took some photos of it like that, but they didn't turn out as well as I had hoped. So, I didn't use them.

Awesome build Paul, glad it all worked out in the end!

This hobby can be temperamental, for me all the hurdles are apart of the journey, makes me appreciate the end product that much more :D

Still can't really comprehend we have affordable access to these wavelengths. 473 Dpss was the golden nugget of wl's, 488 was something we dreamed about 10years ago. :beer:
 
Yeah, jnrpop. It's been great these last several months to a year. I have picked up some awesome wavelengths, now all in builds. I still have diodes in my stock, too. For a rainy day. :yh:

Thanks, Jeff. I see your diode got to you today. It was supposed to get there yesterday. Hope you enjoy that little beauty. It is the exact same wavelength as this one. You will be surprised by the color. I do need to add it to my sig. :thanks:
 
Yep, I was just going to mention that it arrived today; that diode looks so damn small in that plastic tray. :)

paul1598419, the 505nm diode I got from DTR is case neutral. I can confirm when I cut the anti-static bag while I have the pieces.

Yeah, it you look at the microprinting around the diode's window you should see SB147EC91. Those are actually an early iteration that measures 510nm. Still, a beautiful wavelength.

I think that's the model you described. It's hard to see the microprinting through the anti-static bag (I prefer not to risk opening it up since I don't know if it has a TVS Zener diode in connection to the diode like Nichia's). I will be fine with 510nm regardless, since it looks nice (true Emerald Green, if I'd have to pick a color based on the wavelength).
 
I have a 510nm and you will not be unhappy with it. I like it better than 520nm. I have some <505nm diodes left, but they are all case positive. That means using the Blitz linear driver.....which is a PITA. I've done three of them.
