Hello, I bought a diode with driver from DTR and measured the power consumption. It showed 10w for a 2.7w diode. The diode is a NDB7875 445nm and the driver is a Super X-Driver/1.6A-2.4A/6V-9V 2A+. Is it supposed to be that inefficient? Does it supposed to have thermal paste going to it as 7w is a lot of heat. Thanks in advanced.

The driver is 95% efficient but the laser diode is not.

NDB7875 as we overdrive them take 2.4A @ 5.0V that's 12W in for 3W out.

So if you use 2 x 18650 cells then your SXD driver will draw about 1.7A @ 7.5V or equivalent when set to drive a NDB7875 at 2.4A

12.75W into the SXD driver and 12.0W out to the laser diode.

SXD Driver is 95% efficient and the NDB7875 is only 25% efficient as we overdrive them, if you drive the laser diode at factory spec it will be more efficient but not drastically so.
